Meta-project at the Congress of the German Educational Research Association (DGfE)

At the DGfE Congress 2026 in Munich, the meta-project was represented with several contributions and brought key perspectives from the field of “Integration through Education” into the academic exchange.

International Advisory Board established

The International Advisory Board consists of a group of experts who serve as “critical friends” to the meta-project, providing advice and constructive feedback, while also offering input and inspiration for activities across the funding initiative as a whole. Over the coming months, the members will be introduced one by one.

Literature from Educational Practice – In Conversation with Ingrid Gogolin

The research team at the University of Hamburg is investigating which topics related to integration through education are considered particularly relevant in practice and where differences exist between research and practice. The study also aims to identify potential areas for future research. To this end, 20 practice-oriented collaborative projects were asked to recommend key literature. Ingrid Gogolin explains why this exchange is important and which findings surprised her.

Project Conversations

August and September 2025: The meta-project is conducting individual meetings with all funded projects. The aim is to exchange information and share experiences. The discussions also explore how the meta-project can support the projects through its research syntheses and how, by bringing together the projects and their respective areas of relevance, robust conclusions can be drawn for the broader thematic and research field.

Research Day

On July 31, 2025, the meta-project presented its work at the Research Day at FAU Erlangen–Nuremberg. During a poster session, Heike Ziegler and Elvira Dukart showcased their research syntheses on participatory research and the promotion of self-efficacy. The event provided an opportunity to share insights, establish connections, and engage in interdisciplinary exchange on methodological and thematic issues.

Meta-Project Retreat in Göttingen

On July 3–4, 2025, the four subprojects of the meta-project came together for a working retreat to discuss initial findings and the current status of their research activities. The exchange was based on several literature reviews covering the topics of participatory research, conditions for successful innovation, and the effects of language-focused interventions in STEM education.

Networking at the Project Level

On June 25, staff from the funded projects met online for their first exchange. Organized by the meta-project “Coordination and Conditions for Success,” the meeting focused on current progress, early achievements, and next steps. Participants found the discussion highly productive. Similar meetings will be held every two to three months, each with a different thematic focus.

Educational Research Conference

On March 25–26, the meta-project was represented at the Educational Research Conference of the former Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Annette Scheunpflug and Anna-Margarete Davis of the DKJS co-chaired the expert forum “Education in a Migration Society – Diversity-Sensitive Action Knowledge.” The project video was also presented as part of the Science Watch Party.

Conference and Kick-off Event

On February 11, the meta-project “Integration through Education” was presented at the conference “Quality Education in an Immigration Society” organized by the former Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). On February 12, all 50 projects officially launched their work with a joint kick-off event.
