Integration through Education
Conditions for the Successful Design of Diversity-Sensitive and Empowering Education
Background
The Meta-Project on Migration, Integration and Participation in Education accompanies the funding initiative Integration through Education and forms part of the Framework Programme for Empirical Educational Research. Within this programme, practice-oriented collaborative research projects are supported by so-called meta-projects. These conduct independent research from a higher-level perspective in order to situate the findings of the funded projects within a broader scientific and societal context.
Guiding Principles
Every individual has strengths, talents, and the potential to develop their abilities. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to receive recognition and support for these talents from an early age. Children and young people with a migration background encounter specific challenges within the German education system that they must overcome in order to realize their individual potential. These challenges are particularly pronounced for those growing up in socioeconomically disadvantaged circumstances. The project therefore assumes that the development of strengths and capabilities requires educational environments that actively support and nurture individual potential.
Objectives and Target Groups
The project aims to identify resource- and strengths-oriented conditions for success that contribute to effective approaches to integration through education in contexts of diversity and to the empowerment of girls and women with a migration background. These findings will be synthesized into a comprehensive understanding of successful educational practices and strategies.
In addition to policymakers, educational administrations, educational practitioners, and stakeholders involved in the Framework Programme for Empirical Educational Research, the meta-project also engages and involves the broader professional community as well as relevant civil society organizations, including migrant organizations.
