RAISE: Anti-Racist School Development
Anti-Racist School Development for More Equitable Education in a Migration Society
Project at a Glance
Project Description
Empirical studies demonstrate that schools are themselves embedded in racist structures and contribute to the (re)production of racism-related forms of differentiation, thereby limiting inclusion and educational opportunities.
Against this background, the RAISE project seeks to generate knowledge about the conditions, possibilities, and limitations of anti-racist staff and organizational development in schools, with the overall aim of improving participation opportunities for all students in a migration society.
Under the leadership of the University of Siegen, the project brings together research and practice partners to develop a model of professional anti-racist competence. Based on this model, a practice-oriented app for teachers will be designed. The app will enable users to assess their own level of competence and receive automated, personalized feedback, including tailored information modules and reflective prompts to support self-directed professional development.
In addition, the app will provide diversity-sensitive pedagogical knowledge and offer spaces for networked empowerment and power sharing. To establish the conceptual foundations of the app, the project partner KiTma e.V., drawing on its expertise in anti-discrimination work, will analyse the requirements for anti-racist professionalization and develop relevant materials. Following pilot testing in partner schools, the app will be released as a free tool for professional competence development.
To further explore how research-informed anti-racist objectives can be embedded within educational governance structures and institutions, the project partner Bergische Universität Wuppertal will analyse state-specific school policies, regulations, and support structures, including school development advisory services.
Through the development of such regulatory and strategic objectives, the project will provide both school development advisory services and schools themselves with important impulses for the implementation of anti-racist approaches and practices within school development processes.
